Marks & Spencer – #spenditwell

May 19, 2017

As busy stylist and photographer I am constantly rushing from one project to the next, sometimes without ever coming up for air it seems.

I am always inspired and sometimes overwhelmed by all the colourful and creative things I get to see everyday.

The pressure is always on to create the next best look, the next best image.

There are so many times I am hardly home for weeks on end, whilst I am always grateful for all of the fabulous locations and inspiring people I get to meet and work with day to day, nothing means more to me though than coming home, as we all can relate to,

home is love, home is where my lovely husband and puppy Ella are.

I have always been passionate about creating a welcoming home, and welcoming it is, its certainly not a magazine picture,

not by any standards, my home is lived in, it has its loveable parts and its I need some love parts, its old and has character,

but I can see the vision and slowly that vision comes to life over time.

For me the most important room at home is the bedroom, time spent catching up on some sleep and relaxing with my husband and Ella on a Sunday morning mean the world to me. @marks&spencer want us to remember to make the most of every moment.

Making the most of every moment is so important, taking time out to enjoy the things we love most and spoiling ourselves with some

of lifes little pleasures certainly doesnt hurt! Marks & Spencer kindly treated me to a wonderful opportunity to deck out my bedroom,

it was so much fun choosing from an amazing selection of beautiful homewares now available here in Asutralia.

I am a lover of soft pink and ochres at the moment, its a little cooler here in Queensland now, my love is tropical and I always love to keep it fresh and mix it up and try new looks in my bedroom, the natural beatuty of jute is always a feature of any room at my place,

I love the earthyness it creates amongst my white wash cool tropical tones.

I choose a fab selection of complimentary pieces, creating layers of textures whilst keeping a rather minimal feel still.

I was blown away by the beautiful details and quality of all the pieces that arrived, when I chose the standard pillow cases,

I had no idea they had such beautiful detailing.

Creating a welcoming bedroom is simply about choosing pieces that work together well, in colour tones, textures and details, the right mix can create a space you’ll be racing home to enjoy every single day.

A huge thank you to Marks & Spencer and Shopping Links for helping me create a new bedroom to love.

Villastyling Top Picks from Freedom

June 20, 2016

Freedom 1 LR

I recently had the fab opportunity of having my favourite Freedom furniture peices dropped around to my home so I could style up a storm in my living space. My home is still being renovated in numerous places so the opportunity to select my favourite peices and try them out in the space was very welcomed and such a pleasure! It's always tough going for a ne look in a new space and finding just the right pieces that not only look amazing but function well for a relaxed living space!

What's even more exciting is the fact that EVERYTHING is currently ON SALE at Freedom!! EVERYTHING!!

Can you believe it, I popped in recently with my Mum and we shopped up a storm, not only did I purchase items for our home but quite a few new props for the studio as well - so if you see an amazing pendant or some new rugs they are all from Freedom!

I'm totally loving the relaxed loft / global / tropical feel at the moment, so many of the Byron Abodes I get to visit regularly are featuring this style and it's hard not to be inspired!

Freedom 5 LR

For my Freedom lounge room top picks I've choosen the amazingly comfortable Dahlia 3 Seat Sofa if you appreciate the creature comforts of a soft and squishy sofa you can sink into, then you'll love this! The Dahlia is upholstered in a linen-blend fabric which is available in selected fashion colours! The Dahlia  features splendid design details that accentuate the sofa's mid-century design, including a solid timber plinth and tapered timber splayed legs. These match in perfectly with our existing coffee table so I'm excited the two work beautifully together!

My next pick is the stunning Trilby Floor Rug in natural 200 x 300, it's the perfect base for my new setting featuring Bold graphics in neutral colours, and textured yarns of viscose and wool. Even my husband loved this one, so we've bought one already! 🙂

Next was the amazing Compass Ottoman inspired by a Middle Eastern design, this Compass ottoman is covered in high-quality leather and features a geometric pattern on the seat  for us relaxed types it also acts as a handy spot to put a laptop or food tray! And uber comfy to sit or rest your weary feet on!

For a touch of tropical glam which is very Villa Styling I couldnt go past the Coron Ceiling Pendant Say aloha alright! Woven from natural rattan, this pendant will catch the light with the subtle curves of the fringing, designed to echo the gentle windswept motion of palm trees by the sea. This pendant light is the ideal choice for anyone who wants to bring a taste of the warm ocean breeze into their home, whether you live by the sea or not! Organic textures and a curved shape make this inviting piece a fabulous statement in your home.

Introducing Koh Living

May 30, 2016

Koh 8 LR

One thing I love about being a stylist is finding new and unique suppliers to work with. One such new and innovative homewares company is Koh Living. Koh Living stock a vast array of beautiful and stylish pieces for your home. I recently had the pleasure of styling a few products from their new collection. Here is a little about the Koh Living team and some inspirational imagery to get you in the mood for some serious re-decorating!

The Koh Living team are two best friends that loved to travel the world & bring back the perfect gifts for their family and friends that had real meaning & created lasting memories. The girls always looked for that ‘something special’ and found that they had a keen eye for quality. Before they knew it, they were talking about launching Koh Living while sitting in a street café in Bangkok.

The Koh team  truly believes that everything in life is interconnected, so they look for inspiration from different cultures with diverse values and traditions. What really makes them tick is searching for and developing the highest quality products that they feel customers will absolutely love.

The Koh Living vision is to inspire 5000 people every day worldwide to give! That’s almost 2 million moments every year of people being inspired to be grateful, loving and generous.

I asked the Koh Living team what they thought set them apart from other wholesalers.

"In terms of what really sets us apart from other brands is a strong belief in tradition, across all areas of the business. In terms of our range, trends determine elements of our product but they are not the driving force of our finished collections. We understand online as a part of any successful business but a major focus for us, is our bricks and mortor stores, adding value to their business and creating beautiful experiences for their customers. Here at Koh Living we love a sense of community, down to earth communication and inspiring people to give beautiful gifts"

Sleeping on Cloud Nine

May 15, 2016

Super Amart Post 5Super Amart Post 1

If your anything like me, after a long hard day at work you take comfort in knowing that at the end of the day, you'll be jumping into a nice and cosy super soft bed, to catch those well deserved z's in! I spend most of days making beds look amazing and showing everyone how to style them well so they look good with the latest trends etc. We often overlook what's underneath? What's underneath can mean the difference between waking up refreshed or waking up with that cloudy head feeling like you didn't sleep a wink all night, then struggle through the day ahead yet again (that's been me for a long time now). I never thought my mattress could be at the heart of many a nights restless sleep, it's one of many factors of course, but starting with the best possible quality mattress you can afford is a great way to making a great nights sleep!

Recently I was lucky enough to be asked by the lovely team at Super Amart if we would test out the new Orthokinetic range of mattress's now available exclusively from Super Amart stores. I spoke with a representative who asked me a few simple questions, about me and my husbands weight, sleep patterns and ailments ie back aches etc. From there it was suggested the Medium Ultra Stratus Mattress was the best fit for us. Together myself and husband then went in store to try out the new range, we were greeted by the lovely in store customer service team who ran us through the features of each level of comfort, we were very excited to try out them out and the medium was indeed our perfect fit!

Our new mattress arrived a week ago, and to be honest we did endure a few further nights of restlessness and unease as we settled into our new mattress, like anything new it takes time to settle in, initially the medium mattress felt somewhat harder than we remembered in store, which the team tells me is to expected, a new mattress also retains the plastic smell from the wrapping it is delivered in, it only lasted a couple days, and it wasn't unbearable by any means. We are both enjoying a good nights sleep on our new mattress. Here are some of the features of the fab new Orthokinetic range available from Super Amart stores! If your in the market for a new mattress I highly recommend the new collection, as you can see from my imagery, not only can you style up a storm but you can also enjoy looking forward to a good nights sleep on your super soft cloud like mattress.

Trade not Aid

April 16, 2016

It was an aboslute pleasure to work with the lovely team at Cloth & Co. recently. Cloth & Co joined in our on second only Collaboration shoot day at the stunning Picadilly House, our collaboration shoots make stunning locations like this affordable for any size business by sharing the shoot day location hire with one or two other businesses. I’m very excited to bring you the first of our images from this days shoot, from the lovely Cloth & Co collection. Cloth & Co have a stunning and unique collection available, I was very excited to style. Let me introduce you to Cloth & Co and please enjoy the little bit of magic we created at Picadilly House.

Cloth & Co. believes that while International aid has played a significant role in developing countries, no amount of money contributed to these communities will alleviate poverty in the long term, whereas having a strategy for poverty alleviation through capacity development and the skills to create high quality, marketable product for the local and international market is a much more sustainable solution.

Cloth & Co work with women’s Self Help Groups and cooperatives building long term partnerships to ensure a secure and sustainable income so they can plan their future. Cloth & Co partners in India work on the basis of (WFTO) Fair Trade Principles ensuring all of the women are not only paid fairly but are also provided with community support, skills development and a happy, healthy work environment. Cloth & Co’s aim is for the majority of our women to have the option to work from their homes with all the necessary support available if required.

Through Artisans of Fashion Cloth & Co are assisting in capacity and skills development where needed, especially for marginalised women which allows them to grow in confidence, empowering them to change their lives and the future of their children. Cloth & Co artisans are acknowledged and respected for their skills and contribution to the creation of the product, it goes beyond making money and becomes a matter of self worth and pride in the work they are doing.

The traditional Kharad weaving craft of Kachchh is diminishing. Out of the ten families practicing this craft, there are only two left. The other families have been forced to shift to other livelihoods. Originally Kharad carpets were made from goat and camel hair wool. The Maldharis and Rabaris (pastoral communities) would shear the hair from camels and goats, the wool was then given to the hand-spinners who specialized in spinning wool out of goat and camel hair. The Kharad artisans then use the wool to produce beautiful Kharad floor rugs. Their rugs used to be woven for the local market, with the weavers roaming between villages selling their products, but the demand for hand woven rugs has decreased dramatically. Today, the Kharad artisans are dependent on external markets. The Kharad rugs are extremely labour intensive with every part of the process done by hand, from the combing and spinning of the wool to the weaving and finishing. One month of weaving produces 3-5 rugs. Due to the care and skill required to produce these beautiful rugs, they are made to last unlike many of the cheaper, factory produced rugs the hand loomed Kharad rugs will last more than 100 years. Cloth & Co. aims to help expand the market so that more artisans who have left the craft will come back and this beautiful tradition can be preserved.

Tamil Women Weavers started their hand weaving activities in 1987, there are 32 women working in this weaving facility on a full time basis. Most are belonging to the Dalit community and would otherwise be living a very marginalized existence. The meaning of Dalit is “oppressed”, and it is the self-chosen political name for castes of which the Varna system considers “untouchable”.

Tamil Women Weavers provides on the job training to all the interested artisans. The women are taught new techniques to expand the offering of the business to the international market. These women are an extraordinary group who have built their lives and are helping to support their children through school with the traditional skills of handloom. Working with GOTS Certified organic cotton, the women are weaving beautiful quality hand loomed towels and table linen. Cloth & Co. works closely with this group of women, designing and producing products that will sustainably support their livelihoods as well as expand the training programs for other women in the local villages.
